Welcome to the Community Garden at the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden!

Elizabeth’s and Miriam’s Community Gardens were started in 2005 at the Sisters of St. Joseph to address food security in a manner that ensures care of Earth and encourages sustainable practices.
Raised 4’ x 20’ foot beds offer community members a place to grow fresh produce, connect with and care for creation, and build community with the Sisters and neighbors. A portion of the produce is donated to local partner food pantries. By growing produce for themselves and for those who depend on food assistance, community gardeners play a vital role in the Sisters’ mission of serving God and the dear neighbor.
Weekly Time Commitment
- Average time spent is 1 hour per week
- As little as 30 min per week in early season
- Up to 2 hours per week in peak season
Time may vary based on experience! Periodic community workdays may be organized to address common area maintenance, such as mulching, composting, and general cleanup; to provide educational opportunities; and to give gardeners time to socialize. Attendance is encouraged and appreciated.
Applications will be accepted through May 2, 2025 or until all garden spaces have been filled!
A Living Testament to Caring for Our “Dear Neighbor”
The community gardens at Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden embody a living testament to the mission of caring for the “dear neighbor” through sustainable practices and communal sharing.
At its heart, our gardens serve as a vibrant space where volunteers, neighbors, and Sisters come together to nurture the land, fostering an environment that celebrates the interconnectedness of all creation.
By embracing the principles of Integral Ecology, the garden not only encourages eco-friendly gardening techniques but also promotes a spirit of generosity, as a portion of the harvest is donated to local food programs and pantries, directly supporting the most vulnerable members of our community.
Through this initiative, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden invite everyone to partake in this meaningful journey of stewardship and service, reinforcing the belief that together, we can make a difference in the world around us.
New gardeners must meet with the community garden coordinator before plots will be assigned. Plots are assigned to returning gardeners first. If unassigned plots remain, the coordinator will discuss with those interested in tending them.
Upon receiving your application, we’ll reach out to schedule a time to meet on the grounds to visit the garden, answer any questions, and review our community gardeners agreement.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Emily Kramer, Farm Coordinator at ekramer@stjoseph-baden.org.
