On some days, it’s hard to keep in step with Sister Ruth Colaiaine. She starts her day with personal prayer in her room. She makes her way to the Motherhouse Chapel for daily Mass. She spends hours coordinating the annual lottery calendar, and she makes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the poor.
At age 91, Sister Ruth espouses the value of continuing to minister, to pray and to reach out to the dear neighbors, which often is the case for our “retired” Sisters. Sister Ruth served in education for more than 30 years in 11 schools throughout the dioceses of Pittsburgh, Altoona-Johnstown, Greensburg and Atlanta, Ga. Beginning in 1979, she moved into diocesan leadership ministries in religious education and, later, parish social ministries.
