In honor of National Vocation Awareness Week (Nov. 4-10), we’re sharing resources that can help you – or a special young person in your life – understand that what a “vocation” is and how to find it! Click on any heading to explore that topic.
What is a vocation?
A vocation is a CALL or invitation to live your life in a particular manner. As Sisters of St. Joseph, we are always attentive to women who may have a call to religious life, but we also walk with all young people – men and women – to help them consider their particular call from God.
What is YOUR vocation?
In this excerpt from a letter Sister Ita Ford, M.M., wrote to her niece shortly before she was martyred in El Salvador in 1980, she encourages her niece to start searching for her calling. Have you thought about what YOUR vocation might be?
How do I find my vocation?
One way to find YOUR vocation or to simply spend a few minutes with God is through The Examen, which is a simple way of reviewing your day and reflecting on God’s presence. Use these five steps to reflect on where you see God in your everyday life!
Are you still wondering about YOUR vocation and how to find it? Reflect, pray and ask yourself this question. . .
Discernment, what's that?
The process of prayerful decision making is often called discernment. Think of finding (or discerning!) YOUR vocation as being attentive to how God might be communicating with you.
Whether you’re considering (or discerning) YOUR vocation or have some other important decision to make, we recommend praying for openness to God’s will. Try this 11-step Ignatian method the next time you find yourself stressed about a decision or problem.
We are praying for YOU!
Please know that we are praying for all those who are discerning their path in life! If you have questions about your vocation or would like to talk to a Sister about your hopes and dreams, we are here for you.
Want to talk to a Sister about YOUR vocation? Have a question about discernment? Need to confide in someone about your hopes and dreams? Sister Valerie Zottola would love to hear from you!
