Kate Fletcher, whose life of service led to the founding of Hekima Place, will speak about “Beatitudes” on Saturday, November 3, at the annual Memorial Day of Reflection sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph Associates. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse in Baden.
Hekima Place in Kenya is a refuge and resource for girls, many of whom have been orphaned due to the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS. A former teacher, lab technician and nursing home administrator, Kate is a former Sister of the Divine Redeemer. She and her late husband together volunteered extensively to help an impoverished Appalachian community in West Virginia. Shortly after becoming a widow, Kate moved to Nairobi and eventually founded Hekima Place.
Cost of the event is $35, which includes lunch. Scholarships are available. For more information or to register contact Kathy Lotzmann, CSJA, at kalgolf4@hotmail.com or 412-508-1623.
